  4. Bernardo says:

Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an incredibly long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t appear. Grrrr… well I’m
not writing all that over again. Anyway, just wanted to say fantastic blog!

  7. Guin Douglas says:

The absence of a CBC music app for blackberry devices shows a very distinct lack of support for a great Canadian Company by the CBC.

Why would they not do this as a priority… unbelievable.

Thank you to everyone for all of the questions and comments. I followed up with several colleagues although I’m still waiting on some answers, I do have a few to share with you… Please continue posting your questions and comments. I’ll do my best to get you the answers! -Sarah

@Oscar: You can register as a musician, band or songwriter here: http://music.cbc.ca/#/signup.aspx
You will be able to manage your CBC Music artist page with unlimited songs and videos. Link your other profiles, share your calendar and also check your stats. With time, more and more artists will be adding their pages so you’ll see more variety.

@Pat: Glad to hear that you like the service! To keep track of your favorite songs you can either add them to a playlist or add it to your list of favorites by clicking the thumbs up icon.

@Bill: CBC and the Audio-Video Licensing Agency (AVLA)have a music licensing deal. AVLA is a rights collective that processes rights payments to the music labels (all Major labels and just under 1000 Independent labels and artists) in Canada.

  9. Sarah Lue says:

Thanks for your comment Philip. I will share your comment with the CBC Music team.

As a side note, I heard from Kim Fox that the BlackBerry and Android versions are in development.

  10. Sarah Lue says:

@Oscar: Will do! I will share what I hear back with you.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to post your question and comments!

  11. Oscar says:

Sarah, please ask the folks at CBC Music how artists can get their music into the 40 different webstations.

On Radio 3′s website it’s simple and clear what to do. With CBC Music the only music so far looks to be coming from a private company that’s headed by the same guy who runs the discredited CRIA (Canada’s counterpart to the RIAA).

    Thanks!

  12. Philip Patrick says:

It is sad how CBC is promoting Apple and their iphone Apps. I am a proud Canadian and thus own a Blackberry. Perhaps CBC should have given Blackberry a boost by giving them first crack at an app. Or at the least an open source app that works on all phones. CBC is public supported with my taxes. They should support Canadian industry and jobs. Shame on CBC.

  13. Pat says:

I love the CBCMusic app! Is there any way to keep a list of artists/songs one has listened to? I would love this option so I can seek out and purchase music that I have listened to and like.

  14. Thank you a lot for sharing this with all of us you actually recognise what you are talking about! Bookmarked. Please also seek advice from my site =). We can have a link change agreement among us

  15. Sarah Lue says:

Great question Bill. I’m sure many people are wondering the same. I will follow up with the folks over at CBC Music and ask if they tell us more about this in an upcoming blog post.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read and comment on this post.

  16. Bill says:

If this is free, who pays the artists for their music?

  17. Sarah Lue says:

CBC Music (@CBCMusic) confirmed yesterday on Twitter that the BlackBerry and Android versions are in the works. I’m also a BlackBerry user so I share your impatience!! Can’t wait to try this out. Apparently, there are a whole bunch of updates that they’re working on releasing. I’ll share your comments with the team and hopefully they can add it to the list! Please keep the comments coming!

@Anneke: Thanks for pointing out the broken link.

  18. Ryan says:

    really? no android version?
I get the sneaking suspicion that there are only iPhone devs there :p

  19. Jeremy says:

Is an android app in the making? Would love to listen to more CBC on my phone :)

  20. Paul Johanson says:

I want this! But it’s not available in the US iTunes Store. Can it be made available outside Canada?

  21. BCBarby says:

Why only iTunes? Why not something open source and available to everyone, not just those who blindly buy apple?

In phones Apple only has 43% market share compared to Android’s 48%. That’s a big chunk of the market to dismiss.

    http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/06/npd-iphones-recover-market-share-in-q4-2011-but-android-draws/

Is there any chance of an app for the majority of the world?

    Thanks,

    Bb

  22. Jan Dymond says:

Thank you!!!!! I’ll be enjoying all this a great deal. I have listened via cbc.ca to various radio and music shows since forever….nice to have a place dedicated to making it better for me.

  23. Anneke says:

The links on this page don’t seem to work.
